If you are interested in presenting a gift for consideration for the Museum's collections, please send contact Craig Bruns at cbruns@phillyseaport.org or 215.413.8619, or mail a letter to:
Your Gift Proposal will assist the Museum in determining if an object would be an appropriate addition to the collections. We also ask that you provide a photograph or photocopy of the object to better help us understand the nature of the proposed gift.
A gift acceptance committee reviews gift proposals and makes determinations based on the artifact's relevance to the Museum's collecting scope, the historical significance of the object, whether or not the object would duplicate an existing artifact in the collection, the condition of the object, and any storage conditions that would preclude acceptance of the gift.
The review committee will either request a meeting to examine the object or recommend other institutions that might be more appropriate for the acceptance of the gift. Sometimes additional research is necessary and donors may be asked to loan the object to the Museum for a short period of time.
The gift acceptance committee review process takes four to six weeks to complete. Once a gift has been accepted, the Museum's registrar issues a receipt and formalized deed of gift, which is executed to complete the gifting process.
